Varland strikes out 10 in 5-inning rout
The No. 2-seed North High Polars opened the Section 4 Class AAA baseball playoffs with a flurry of runs against the No. 7-seed Henry Sibley Warriors Saturday, May 23 at Kuenkel Field.
The Polars scored all they would need in the bottom of the first inning and went on to finish the contest in 4 1/2 innings when the 10-run rule took effect.
North hurler Gus Varland went the distance, allowing just two hits and three walks, and striking out 10 batters.

North Polars calm Mahtomedi Zephyrs for crucial Metro East win

Lauzon hurls 7-inning, 2-hit shutout
Before a standing-room-only crowd at Kuenkel Field, the North High Polars battled with baseball powerhouse Mahtomedi on Wednesday, May 13.
The game had special significance because of the Metro East Conference standings. Heading into the game North was 12-2 in the MEC, while Mahtomedi had a mark of 13-1.
Both teams had one MEC game remaining on their schedules.

North halts St. Thomas, 3-0, Zach Lauzon allows only 3 hits

On a day better suited to ducks than baseball fans, the St. Thomas Academy Cadets ventured to North St. Paul to dodge raindrops and battle the North High Polars.
