RAHS girls tennis falls in section semis

The Roseville Area High School girls tennis team fell short of a berth in the state tournament last week but has a half dozen players trying this week to reach the individual state tournament.

The Raiders were seeded third in the Section 4AA team tournament and with victories over St. Paul Johnson and Centennial advanced to the semifinals. That's where they went up against a familiar foe in second-seeded Mounds View, which had beaten Roseville 5-2 during the regular season.

Mounds View picked up another win over Roseville by taking down the Raiders 6-1 in the section tournament. The Mustangs went on to lose 4-3 to top-seeded Mahtomedi in the section final.

With the section team championship decided, the singles and doubles titles are up for grabs this week. Playing in the singles tournament for Roseville are senior Kari Norris, the eighth seed, and freshman Hayley Helberg. Roseville's doubles teams are senior Megan Joyce and seventh grader Surena Vu on one side of the bracket and seniors Grace Magnuson and Laura Harris on the other.

The girls tennis state tournament is Oct. 27-30 at the Baseline Tennis Center.
