Both the baseball and softball teams from Roseville Area High School saw their seasons come to an end last week at the hands of teams from the same school.
North St. Paul, the No. 2 seed in both tournaments, eliminated the Raiders on both fronts.

Softball
Roseville’s longest playoff run in five years lasted until the section semifinals. The Raiders went 3-2 in the Section 4AAA tournament and lost in the loser’s bracket final.

Roseville, the No. 3 seed, entered the final two days of the tournament with one loss and staved off elimination on May 27 by beating fourth-seeded Stillwater 1-0.

Aryka Knoche drove in the only run of the game with a double in the fifth inning. The hit plated Brittany Boss, who had reached on a two-out error.

Emma Hylen kept Stillwater off the scoreboard by scattering four hits, walking only two and striking out nine.

It was announced later in the week that Hylen is one of seven finalists for the Ms. Softball award that goes to the most outstanding senior prep softball player. Hylen is one of four pitchers up for the award.

Following the Stillwater win, Roseville had to wait a few minutes to find out its next opponent. Woodbury and North St. Paul had gone to extra innings in their game and the Raiders would face the loser.

Woodbury ended up prevailing 4-3 in 11 innings to send North St. Paul to the loser’s bracket final.

The Polars ended Roseville’s run by beating the Raiders 10-4. North St. Paul was responsible for both of Roseville’s section losses after beating the Raiders 3-1 in the third round.
Roseville finished the season with a record of 16-7.

Baseball

The Raiders entered last week’s action in the Section 4AAA playoffs with a 1-1 record. They staved off elimination with a 6-2 win over Stillwater on Memorial Day to earn a trip to CHS Field for the next round.

Roseville, seeded eighth, faced second-seeded North St. Paul on May 28 and came up just short. The Raiders fell behind early and couldn’t quite rally all the way back as the Polars prevailed 5-4 to eliminate Roseville.

Roseville led by one in the middle of the second and third innings but each time North St. Paul had an answer. The Polars tied it at 1-1 in the bottom of the second and scored four in the bottom of the third to make it 5-2.

Roseville got one back in the fifth and drew within one in the seventh but couldn’t produce the tying run.

Tim Pasiuk and Luke Newton had two hits each and Newton scored twice. Jesper Horsted had the team’s only extra-base hit of the game with a triple.
Roseville finished the season with a record of 11-13.
