Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner will lead the Minnesota County Attorneys Association over the next 12 months. Gaertner was elected president during the Association’s annual meeting in Bloomington. Dakota County Attorney James C. Backstrom was elected treasurer.
The 45th Annual 4th District Voice of Democracy Awards Program and Banquet was hosted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6690 and its Ladies Auxiliary on Sunday, Dec. 4, at their Post home in Mendota.
Robert Burns, a fifth-grader at Hilltop Elementary, won second place in Inver Grove Heights’ 5th-grade district-wide fire prevention poster contest. Fire Marshall Jeff Schadegg awarded Burns with a $75 savings bond on Oct. 28.
Students at Pilot Knob Elementary School in Eagan have been focusing on holiday cheer for the less fortunate by supporting the “Armful of Love” gift collection. From December 5 to 9, students brought new toys to school for the annual campaign organized by the Community Action Council.
Thompson Park Activity Center has elected five new community members to serve on the Thompson Park Activity Center Advisory Council for terms starting in January 2006. Jean Marble, Don Buckner, Karen Griffen, Muriel Owen and Bernice Rand have been elected.
Author Patrick Mader will read “Opa and Oma Together,” a book about grandparents and their farm, at the Dakota County Inver Glen Library in Inver Grove Heights on Wednesday, Dec. 28, from 1 to 2 p.m. He will also be demonstrating with dairy props how cows were milked years ago.
