Countryside restaurant owner says, “Thanks for the memories”

Jim DuRose became a Roseville resident when he was just a lad of eight, following his family’s move from St. Paul. He began his career at the Countryside as a dishwasher and bus boy while attending Mounds View High School, graduating from MVHS in 1976.

Raiders headed back to state

The Roseville Area High School girls cross country team ran its state-meet streak to five consecutive years thanks to its second-place finish at last week’s section meet.
The Raiders ended up with 88 points at the Section 4AA meet on Oct. 23 at the Les Bolstad Golf Course to hold off third-place White Bear Lake, which had 102 points. East Ridge won the section team title with 51 points.

OVALumination begins a new holiday tradition

Join in a new  Roseville holiday tradition  - the first annual Ovalumination lighting event - to mark the Guidant John Rose Oval’s 20th anniversary. Hundreds of trees will be illuminated around the OVAL from early November to Jan. 31, and will be free for all to view.
Individuals, community groups and local businesses are invited to chose  a 12-, 20- or 30- foot arborvitae or evergreen from over 300 surrounding the Oval and sponsor the LED lights that will illuminate it during the holidays.

Urban farming, a growing trend, has people in some communities worked up

To address a controversy that seems to be growing in New Brighton, the city council recently established an urban farming task force, charged with making recommendations to the council on all things grown on a farm, from apples to zucchini, from pigs to butterflies.
But chickens seem to be at the core of the issue, and that will likely be the focus of the group.

Developers present proposals for Dale Street Fire Station

Three developers interested in purchasing and developing land at the site of the old Dale Street Fire Station outlined their proposals to the Roseville Housing and Redevelopment Authority Oct. 15.
Representatives from the Greater Metropolitan Housing Corporation, Sand Development LLC and CommonBond Communities met separately with the RHRA board to present each proposal for the three-acre parcel.

Q & A with Roseville Area School Board candidates

Three seats are open on Roseville Area School Board this year.
Incumbent Kitty Gogins and challengers Mike Boguszewski, Mark Traynor and Frank Shaw are running for the spots on the board.
Voters will also be asked to approve a new eight-year operating levy for Roseville Area Schools this November. The new levy would generate $1,505 per student in the district. The current operating levy  expires on June 30, 2014.
