North St. Paul 6 - Rosetown 1
The Rosetown American Legion Post 542 baseball team ran into the hot bats of the North St. Paul 39ers Tuesday, July 8. The result was a 6-1 loss for the visiting Rockets.
“Basically they just beat us,” stated Rosetown manager Jeremy Nelson. “They made the plays in the field. We didn’t. They hit the ball. We didn’t. They had better pitching. That is the game in a nutshell.”
From the North St. Paul perspective, manager Ron Adams said, “We were able to generate a lot of two-out hits. I would think that had to be kind of deflating for them.
“Our pitcher threw well. He wasn’t all that fast, but he threw enough strikes to keep them off balance,” Adams said. “We were good in the field, and all of those things helped us put together a solid ball game for the win.”
All of the six runs scored by the 39ers came after there were two outs. They ended the game with a line score of 6-9-1-7. The Rockets were 1-5-3-5.
With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, Joe Messerole doubled, Sam Farley hit a sharp ground ball into left field, and Steve Orme followed with a double that plated Messerole.
In the last of the second--again with two outs--Jack Murnane worked a walk. A single off the bat of Corky Hildebrandt sent Murnane to third. Hildebrandt then stole second. An infield error allowed the pair to score sending the score to 3-0.
In the sixth the Rockets picked up their lone run. A two-out walk to John Holleran was followed by back-to-back singles by Ian Harlander and Evan Young that sent Holleran across home plate.
In the bottom of the sixth Sam Blees was hit by a pitch. Two outs later Hildebrandt singled and Blees scored. Tommy Mulvaney singled and Hildebrandt touched home. Messerole doubled to send Mulvaney home and the run was posted on the board.
