A number of Roseville Area High School winter-sport athletes earned various post-season awards. Here’s a look at those athletes and their accomplishments.
Two members of the Raiders’ girls hockey team were selected to participate in the Senior Classic, a post-season all-star series held a week after the state tournament. Defenseman Xilly Lang and forward Erika Bjorkman played for the Section 4 team that finished fourth.
Section 4 went 2-0-1 and finished second in pool play. In the third-place game, the team lost 3-2 to Section 7. Lang picked up a pair of assists in the game.
Next fall, Lang will take the ice for the Lindenwood University women’s hockey team, a Division I program. Lindenwood is located in St. Charles, Mo., and its women’s hockey team plays in the College Hockey America conference.
In addition to playing in the Senior Classic, Lang was also honored by the Pioneer Press by being named to its all-East Metro team.
Bjorkman closed out her prep hockey career by leading Roseville in scoring with 33 points on 17 goals and 16 assists.
Roseville’s boys hockey team also sent a pair of players to a post-season all-star tournament. Andrew Colvard and Tommy Hvidhyld played in the Great 8 Festival held in early March at Wakota Arena in South St. Paul.
Playing for Section 4, Colvard and Hvidhyld helped lead the team to the championship game. Section 8 proved too much to handle, however, and won the title with a 5-1 victory. Colvard picked up an assist in the title game.
Colvard was named all-East Metro first team by the Pioneer Press following a senior season where he scored 20 goals and added 25 assists. Seven of his tallies came when Roseville was shorthanded. For his Roseville career, Colvard finished with 41 goals and 50 assists.
Monica Burich led the Roseville girls basketball team, in what was supposed to be a rebuilding season, to the No. 2 seed in the section playoffs. A junior, Burich led the Raiders in scoring at 16 points per game as Roseville compiled a record of 21-7.
For her efforts, Burich was named third-team all-metro by the Star Tribune.
