Following discussions at two separate meetings, Oakdale City Council members recently approved a plan that would allow the AmericInn Hotel, located at 6630 Hudson Blvd., just north of Interstate 94 and east of Tanners Lake, to be remodeled into a senior living facility.
At its Feb. 25 meeting, city council members voted unanimously to rezone the property for “Limited Business” use. This will “maintain the site’s essentially commercial nature while still allowing for an assisted living site,” according to a staff report.
The applicant, St. Paul business owner Bao Vang, had originally requested the property be rezoned as High Density Residential, but council members were hesitant to amend Oakdale’s comprehensive plan for such use in the event that the land purchase agreement fell through.
Staff was directed to draft the amendment to the zoning ordinance to rezone the property as Limited Business at council’s behest after a workshop Feb. 11.
The proposed 55-bed assisted living facility would be allowed as a conditional use.
The project will come before council again in April for the approval of a Conditional Use Permit.
A consultant on the proposal said Vang did not wish to comment on the project at this time. The Review was unable to reach a representative from the hotel for comment.
