To the editor:
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Helping someone in need is a driving force behind why a firefighter goes into this profession. Whether it is in a career role or a part-time one, the common thread is to help others. During the holiday season, that drive to help others is magnified in many ways with a lot of opportunities to help those around us.
2013 was the 25th year that the St. Anthony Fire Department has driven through the city to collect donated toys from our residents and businesses. Whether it has been a temperature of minus 2 degrees or 35 degrees, we have put on our boots and walked the streets of St. Anthony to collect toys for those in need. It is that drive to help others and the continued support of the community that has allowed us to keep this going for as long as it has.
This year we were able to collect over 1800 toys along with over $900 in cash and gift card donations. Looking at that number and how it has changed over 25 years is quite impressive. Knowing that on the low end we have collected and donated over 25,000 toys through the years is something to be proud of.
On behalf of the men and woman of the St. Anthony Fire Department, I want to say thank you for giving us 25 years of support and continued generosity to help those around us.
