St. Anthony fastpitch rolls in playoff opener
The St. Anthony Village High School faspitch softball team rolled to an easy victory in its Section 4AA playoff opener on Thursday. The top-seeded Huskies shelled 16th-seeded Minneapolis Edison 30-4 in five innings.
St. Anthony actually trailed 3-0 after the top of the first inning and 4-3 after 1 1/2 innings but took control in the bottom of the second. The Huskies put up eight runs in the second, eight more in the third and if that wasn't enough added 11 in the fourth.
Offensively, St. Anthony got home runs from Kelly Lawson, Rebecca Snyder and Kelly Morris. Lawson went 4-for-5 with the homer, two triples, four runs batted in and five runs scored; Kelly Tappe was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple to go along with three runs scored and five driven in; and Emma Bradt was also 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a pair of runs batted in.
Aiyana Ledwein picked up the win in the circle while Tappe and Emily Van Patter also got in the game at pitcher.
Next up for St. Anthony (17-3) is a second-round home game on Saturday at 1 p.m. against ninth-seeded DeLaSalle (8-11), a first-round victor over eighth-seeded St. Paul Humboldt. The Islanders jumped out to a 7-0 lead en route to an 8-4 victory over the Hawks.
