SAVHS volleyball in action Thursday
The St. Anthony Village High School volleyball team has a playoff match on the schedule for Thursday. The third-seeded Huskies visit second-seeded Zimmerman at 7 p.m. with a berth in the section final on the line.
St. Anthony is 2-0 so far in the Section 5AA tournament. The Huskies opened the post-season Oct. 25 with a three-game sweep (25-3, 25-7, 25-11) of 14th-seeded Minneapolis Edison.
In the quarterfinals on Tuesday, St. Anthony swept 11th-seeded Milaca 25-19, 25-20, 25-15. The Wolves surprised sixth-seeded DeLaSalle in the first round.
Against Milaca, Sarah DeMars paced St. Anthony with 11 kills while Jenna Goldsmith added seven. Mary-Clare Couillard set up a number of those kills as she finished the night with 22 assists. St. Anthony also served up 14 aces.
Defensively, Victoria Bollensen dug out 21 balls and Paige Matthews added 10 digs. Breanna Bergquist added five blocks.
St. Anthony's opponent on Thursday, Zimmerman, swept 15th-seeded Blake and Rockford, the seventh seed, to reach the semifinals.
The other semifinal features fourth-seeded Breck playing at top-seeded Maple Lake. The two semifinal winners meet in the section final on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Rockford High School.
