Roseville lacrosse in action at home Wednesday
The boys and girls lacrosse teams from Roseville Area High School open the section playoffs at home on Wednesday with back-to-back games. Lacrosse action starts at 4:30 p.m. with the boys' contest and continues at 7 p.m. with the girls' match.
The Raiders are seeded fourth in Section 5 and host 13th-seeded Hopkins.Roseville enters the post-season ranked ninth in the state and riding a 10-match winning streak.
Senior Lee Stecklein recently earned all-state honors from the Minnesota Girls Lacrosse Coaches Association.
The top five seeds in the section are ranked in the top 10 in the state. Top-seeded Blake had been ranked No. 1 but fell to No. 2 behind Eden Prairie in the most recent poll. Blake and Eden Prairie have met in all five state title games since the Minnesota State High School League began sanctioning lacrosse back in 2007. Blake is the two-time defending state champion.
Second-seeded Edina was ranked fourth, followed by third-seeded Cretin-Derham Hall at No. 3. Next is Roseville at No. 9 and fifth-seeded Minnehaha Academy rounds out the top 10 ranked at No. 10.
The Roseville/Hopkins winner advances to Friday's quarterfinals against either Minnehaha Academy or 12th-seeded Breck. If Roseville beats Hopkins, it will host the Minnehaha/Breck winner on Friday.

Roseville's boys team is seeded eighth and hosts ninth-seeded Woodbury. The Raiders and Royals met once during the regular season with Roseville coming away with a 7-4 victory on April 30.
The Roseville/Woodbury winner advances to the quarterfinals on Friday and a match-up with top-seeded and defending state champion Benilde-St. Margaret's.
