Sue Vallafskey introduced 1st grade teachers Michelle Anderson, Katie Debele, Melissa Kokaisel, Sara Getting and Monica Atneosen who presented their work with reading intervention. Some of the tools utilized are duet reading for fluency intervention, and the developmental reading assessment (DRA) to figure out if students are reading on, below, or above reading level. This allows staff to focus on small group instruction that is based on student needs. 3. A reminder that there will be no school this coming Wednesday, November 27, 2013 through Friday, November 29, 2013. School will resume on Monday, December 2, 2013. B. Director of Business Service’s Report 1. MMKR representative Bill Lauer presented to the Board the results and findings of the district’s 2012 – 2013 annual audit. 2. Mr. Mutzenberger presented to the Board the monthly finance report. Expenditures are comparable to last year. The annual Truth in Taxation Meeting will be held in the district office on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. C. Committee Reports 1. Standing Committees a. Finance: The Committee discussed budget parameters for the bargaining groups in active contract negotiations and Jason Mutzenberger updated the Committee with the status of those. Mr. Mutzenberger recommended to the Committee the use of an electronic accounts payable system and discussed the use of a freight and shipping vendor that contracts for all shipping and freight needs for the District. Lynn Tenney provided and update on the status of the fiber lease. b. Personnel: The Committee reviewed a community education position description update. Jason Mutzenberger provided the Committee negotiations updates from various groups. The Committee reviewed the required state parameters for principal evaluation and the agreed upon measures the District will use. The Committee reviewed and update on the status of the development of the state required teacher evaluation system. The Committee continues to meet and is making progress. The Committee heard a request from administration to add 1.0 FTE Kindergarten position at Salem Hills due to unique learner needs. 2. Membership Reports a. Association of Metropolitan Schools (AMSD) – The Early Learners conference was well attended, look for updates. Will be meeting again in two weeks. b. East Metro Integration District (EMID) – The Executive Director Jean Lubke is continuing to meet with Superintendents from all participating districts to find out needs moving forward. c. Minnesota School Board Association (MSBA) – Attended a delegate assembly. MSBA conference is coming up and will take place January 16th and 17th. VI.
