Podobinski family celebrates big Friday
Friday was a big day for the Podobinski family.
The Podobinski brothers were instrumental in helping their respective baseball teams win their playoff games in two different states. Sam Podobinski and his Roseville Area High School teammates won their section playoff opener while Ben Podobinski helped the University of St. Thomas win its first game in the Division III World Series.
Sam drove in the game-winning run in Roseville's 3-2, nine-inning victory over White Bear Lake in the first round of the Section 4AAA playoffs. His sacrifice fly plated Andrew Colvard and sent the Raiders to a second-round match-up against Cretin-Derham Hall on Saturday.Meanwhile, in eastern Wisconsin, Ben Podobinski singled twice in the top of the third inning against Christopher Newport as St. Thomas scored nine times en route to a 12-7 victory.
The victory sent St. Thomas to a second-round match-up against defending national champion Marietta. The game was supposed to have been played Saturday but rain postponed it until Sunday at 6 p.m.
