Mounds View junior earns hockey honor

Mounds View High School junior Lauren Wedell recently competed in a junior all-star game. Wedell was named to the Junior Women's Hockey League West All-Star team.

Wedell was the only junior defenseman on either of the all-star teams. The all-star game was held Feb. 16 at the Kettler Capitals IcePlex in Arlington, Vir.

Wedell played for the Minnesota Thoroughbreds this season after playing two seasons at Mounds View as a freshman and sophomore. She was one of three Thoroughbreds named to the all-star team.

In addition to hockey, Wedell also excels in the classroom. She has a grade-point average of 4.15 and is ranked in the top two percent in her class.

Lauren Wedell's older sister Natalie is also a hockey standout. Natalie recently completed her junior season on the Yale University women's hockey team.
