Library branch in Lake Elmo named after Rosalie Wahl

The Washington County Board of Commissioners named the soon-to-be opened Washington County Library branch in Lake Elmo after former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Rosalie Wahl.

Wahl has advocated for library services in Washington County throughout her 50 years as a county resident and was a key figure in the establishment of the county library system in 1967.

Wahl gained wider distinction in 1977 when she became the first woman jurist to sit on the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Wahl wrote that she was very moved by the honor.

“It was so unexpected - and helping to do the groundwork for the Washington County Library is one of the things I’ve done of which I am most proud,” Wahl wrote in a letter to Library Director Patricia Conley. Conley said the Rosalie E. Wahl Branch Library would open in mid-December with a grand opening planned for Jan 7, 2006.
