Music was performed by United Marching Band, which is made up of students in the North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School District 622. Percussionists in the student band beat their drums to the tune of Santana’s “Smooth.”
The parade included many laughs thanks to the St. Paul Clown Club; the Twin Cities Unicycle Club showed of its skills; and a pet pig with Washington County 4-H trotted past spectators, hamming up the attention. Grand Marshal Frank Orsello and Volunteer of the Year Jodi Christensen made their way through the parade in style, sharing a ride in a convertible. Both are local businesspeople and members of the Oakdale Area Chamber of Commerce.
On June 21, the first official day of summer, Oakdale kicked off its Summerfest celebration with the Ted Bearth Grande Parade, which made its way down 15th Street from Transfiguration Church to City Hall. The Twin Cities Unicycle Club wheeled through the route on all sizes of unicycles, and the Tartan Dance Team showed their best moves.
