Concordia fastpitch kicks off post-season Thursday
The Concordia Academy High School fastpitch softball team begins the post-season this week. The Beacons are the fifth seed in Section 4AA and play their first playoff game on Thursday.
Concordia (11-9) hosts 12th-seeded St. Paul Central (7-9) at 4 p.m. on Thursday. Central enters Thursday's game on a two-game losing streak but had won six in a row prior to the skid. Central had a rough start to the season, winning just one of its first eight games.
Concordia Academy has won only one of its past five contests, a 15-1 pasting of Minneapolis Washburn in the third round of the Robbinsdale Cooper tournament last Saturday. The Beacons' high-water mark of the season was five games above .500 (10-5) following a 10-0 win over Breck on May 7.
Of Concordia's 11 victories this season, the biggest was probably the 4-2 win over St. Anthony Village on April 26. St. Anthony is the No. 1 seed in Section 4AA and is ranked seventh in the state in Class AA in the coaches association poll released on May 15. Concordia is the only Section 4AA team to beat St. Anthony this season.
The second round is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. Should Concordia beat Central on Thursday, it would either host Breck or travel to St. Croix Lutheran on Saturday.
The playoffs resume next week with games on Tuesday and Thursday.
