A pair of Roseville Area High School alumni made news with their respective collegiate teams last week.
Dorr, a 2007 Roseville graduate and a senior co-captain on the Minnesota State-Mankato men's hockey team, had a three-point game on Saturday against Bemijdi State. Dorr scored two goals and added an assist as the Mavericks won 5-2 and managed a split in their two-game series with the Beavers.
Goals have been hard to come by for Dorr, who saw his goal total jump by 50 percent with his effort on Saturday.
"I've had struggles this year scoring goals so it's nice to get a couple even strength, get the plus/minus going in the right direction," Dorr said in post-game comments.
Dorr also led all players with nine shots on goal.
Dorr upped his goal total to six for this season and he is now at 16 points. He improved his plus/minus number to minus-one. Only two Mavericks were plusses after the Bemidji series.
A year ago, Dorr led the Mavericks in goals with 12 and was second on the team in assists with 14 and total scoring with 26 points, one behind the team leader.
Heading into this weekend's home series against Michigan Tech, Minnesota State is 9-18-1 overall and 5-14-1 and in 11th place in the 12-team Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Muscala, a 2009 Roseville graduate and junior co-captain on the Bucknell University men's basketball team, was named the Patriot League player of the week on Jan. 23. He earned the award by posting double-doubles in Bucknell wins over Lehigh on Jan. 18 and Holy Cross on Jan. 21.
Muscala scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds against Lehigh and went for 11 points and 11 boards in only 23 minutes against Holy Cross.
Bucknell picked up two more wins last week as Muscala recorded his third consecutive double-double (21 points, 12 rebounds) against American and scored 27 points against Navy.
The 11 doubles-doubles are five shy of the single-season Bucknell record of 16 set in 2002-03.
Muscala heads into this week's action, which includes a Saturday home against Army, averaging 15.6 points and a Patriot League-leading 9.2 rebounds per game. In conference games, Muscala is scoring 18 points per game to go along with 9.2 boards.
Through Jan. 26, which included the American game, Muscala was tied for 11th nationally with the 11 double-doubles. Through Saturday, Muscala was 12th nationally in player efficiency rankings, which compares players on their offense and defensive statistics.
By beating Navy, Bucknell closed out the first half of the Patriot League schedule with a perfect 7-0 league record and a two-game lead over Lehigh and American in the conference standings. The Bison entered this week riding a nine-game winning streak and had won 17 straight against Patriot League foes dating back to last season. Bucknell is the defending regular-season and playoff conference champion.
