Inver Grove Heights emergency account saved

State Rep. Joe Atkins
District 52B

In the original Environment and Agriculture budget bill that passed the legislature during the regular session there was a provision to raid the $8.1 million metro landfill emergency response account and spend it on unrelated projects. This emergency response account protects the safety of people who live within a few miles of the state’s two largest landfills, which are located in Inver Grove Heights and Burnsville. Fortunately this bill was vetoed, which gave us one final chance to save the emergency response account in the special session.

State Rep. Joe Atkins
District 52B

A whirlwind week is winding down. About two weeks ago, there were over 2,000 legislative proposals in play. Only about 320 remain, as a result of two bruising deadline weeks in which bills had to pass necessary committees in the House and Senate, or be left behind. But the most lively discussions in the hallways swirled around additional tax breaks for the 2018 Super Bowl and a new pro soccer stadium.

Reuniting Minnesotans with ‘unclaimed property’

$2090. That’s the amount of money my deceased grandma had in an old TCF bank account that none of us knew about until I checked the State of Minnesota’s unclaimed property list.

Did you know the State of Minnesota is holding over $606 million in unclaimed property? This averages out to about $120 per person for each of Minnesota’s roughly five million residents.
