The Tri-City Red American Legion baseball team has advanced to the finals of the Gopher Classic and will play for the championship on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The game takes place at Veterans Field at Minnetonka High School.

The day dawned cool and sunny with a few billowy white clouds for the July 4 Watermelon Ride through Shoreview and the surrounding northern suburbs.

Pitching is the foundation of any championship baseball team and the Mounds View High School squad showed why during the state tournament. The Mustangs gave up just one run over 21 innings to claim their second consecutive state title.
