New Brighton hydrant flushing Oct. 5

The New Brighton Water Department will begin flushing hydrants on Monday, Oct. 5 to remove iron from the water system. The flushing may temporarily cause some reddish-brown water for some city residents.

Meeting hospice staffer leads to Wakefield book documenting lifetime quest

As a 13-year-old boy in Eritrea — a coastal African nation bordering Sudan, Ethiopia and the Red Sea — Frezgi Hiskias got caught in a thunderstorm while herding cattle back to his village.
As he and a friend sheltered under a tree, talking about how close they were to home — just a two-day journey — a bolt of lightning struck.

New Brighton’s newest playground open for play

Members of the New Brighton City Council and the Parks and Recreation Department, along with some kids, were on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 22 at Totem Pole Park to open the city's newest playground.

New I-694 construction project emphasizes knowing your route

Two weeks after a public hearing in which all speakers were in favor of a Ramsey County draft ordinance banning the use of e-cigarettes in places where smoking is already prohibited, the Ramsey County Board approved the ordinance Sept. 22.
