Victim identified in traffic fatality in Shoreview

James L. Youngbauer, a 56-year-old Shoreview resident, died after he was struck by a semitrailer truck at approximately 12:55 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, in the 5500 block of Lexington Avenue in Shoreview.
Witnesses report seeing Youngbauer walk in front of the semi that was traveling north bound on Lexington Avenue, north of County Road I.

Leave it to the Minnesota State Fair to entice guests with new foods hitting the stick and plunging into the fryers.
This year’s new lineup of foods includes bacon-wrapped grilled shrimp on-a-stick, deep-fried pickles dipped in chocolate sauce and grilled glazed doughnuts on-a-stick.

Mounds View continues to collect Xcel franchise fees

The Mounds View City Council approved a continuation of a franchise fee on Xcel Energy electric and natural gas services in the city at its Monday, Aug. 12 meeting.
The city first adopted a franchise free agreement on electric and natural gas services in 1993.

Pool supply vehicle leaks toxic chemical in St. Anthony

A driver of a pool supply vehicle called police at 9:50 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, when he noticed toxic pool cleaning chemicals leaking from the vehicle.
The driver spotted the chemical leak while in St. Anthony Village near 37th Avenue NE and Macalester Drive. He quickly called 911 to report the leak and parked the vehicle.
According to a police department press release, the vehicle traveled approximately six blocks while leaking the chemical before stopping at 37th Avenue and Highcrest Road in Roseville.

Mounds View’s Festival in the Park Saturday

Mounds View’s annual summer get together, Festival in the Park, will take place on Saturday, Aug. 17 at City Hall Park, 2401 County Hwy. 10.
The all-day celebration includes live music, fireworks, a parade, food booths, a beer garden, car show, 5K Fun Run, craft and information booths and more.
“It’s the one day of the year we like to give back to the community,” the festival’s committee president Theresa Cermack says.
