Ramsey County authorizes purchase of Vadnais Sports Center

In about a month, Ramsey County will be able to boast a good-as-new sports complex as its newest addition to the Parks and Recreation Department.
At its May 27 meeting, the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners voted 6-1 to authorize county manager Julie Kleinschmidt to purchase the Vadnais Sports Center for $9.8 million. The county also authorized the purchase of two adjacent commercial lots which could be developed for $752,000.

Local teacher and traveler memorialized by scholarship

It’s been a decade since Joshua Haglund, a Mounds View High School grad, avid traveler and teacher, was killed. On May 17, 2004, Joshua, 33, was attacked in his apartment in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, where he worked at a university teaching English.

The Bobbidy Bop Bop Bops, Wilshire Park Elementary’s dreamers of dreams and Destination Imagination (DI) team, has advanced to the Destination Imagination Global 2014 Finals in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The team, made up of four boys and two girls, all fourth and fifth graders, will travel to Knoxville May 21-24. Susan Boatman, Wilshire Park’s DI adviser, said this will be the third time a team from the elementary school has made it to the global finals, most recently in 2012.
