Girls hockey: Packers shut down Tartan attack

In a make-up girls hockey game Feb. 4, the South St. Paul Packers invaded Tartan Arena and left the Titans feeling as cold as the subzero temperatures that caused the weather-related postponement in the first place.
Though the Titans had a occasional sorties into the Packers zone, they could not penetrate the visitors’ armor and the result was a 3-0 setback.

Boys basketball: Titan first-half flurry stops Pioneers

The Hill-Murray Pioneers traveled to Tartan Jan. 29 for a Classic Suburban Conference boys basketball confrontation and ended up on the bottom side of an 85-70 final tally.
From the stands, it may have appeared there were two different teams playing two different games. The first half belonged to Tartan and the second half to the Pioneers, as they came back and outscored the Titans by 11. But for the Pioneers it was not enough to overcome Tartan’s domination in the first 18 minutes.

Boys hockey: Mustangs gallop past Titans

The Mounds View Mustangs came to Tartan Jan. 30 for a makeup boys’ hockey clash. In a rare afternoon start, the Mustangs rode home with a 3-2 victory.
It was a sweet success for Mounds View head coach Rick Thomas, who is rebuilding the team this year.

Girls’ Hockey: Polars even score with Titans

The return girls’ hockey game featuring School District 622 archrivals North and Tartan high schools was a lot like everyone—except the Titans—might have expected.
In the first meeting between the foes—back on Dec. 17—Tartan triumphed at home with a 2-1 overtime victory.

Wrestling: Experienced Titans pin young Polars 

The North Polars ventured into enemy territory at Tartan for a Classic Suburban Conference wrestling match Jan. 15 and saw the Tartan grapplers dominate their efforts in a 72-0 blitz.
“We met our expectations,” offered Tartan head coach Dan Recchio. “This win gives us second place in the conference behind, who else, Simley. We expected this outcome.”
 The Titans have their eyes on their next goal, Recchio explained.

Local teams post hockey success

The Titans of Tartan took their girls’ hockey forces to the St. Croix Ice Arena Jan. 16, to play the Mahtomedi Zephyrs in a Classic Suburban Conference matchup.  
In a close contest. neither team was able to produce a goal until the third period.
Just 27 seconds into the final session, the Titans’ Hannah Croonquist took a pass from Jordan Jackson and found pay dirt inside the Mahtomedi net.

Girls hockey: Pioneers bump Titans in CSC match

The Hill-Murray Pioneers took their high-powered girls hockey team into Titanville Jan. 14 to do battle with Tartan in a Classic Suburban Conference contest.
In a display of precision and superb passing, the Pioneers quickly built a 3-0 margin and then sat back on their laurels and almost dared the Titans to respond.
Tartan fought hard, but in the end could not find the tools to fend off the 5-1 final.
