In a span of about 24 hours, the Tri-City Red American Legion baseball team went through quite a roller-coaster ride in its three state-tournament games. The three games featured a blowout, a nail-biter and elimination.
The Sub-State 7 American Legion Baseball playoffs were played at Kuenkel Field in North St. Paul, July 21-25, and once the last out was recorded, the North St. Paul 39ers were on top and headed to the state tournament.
Three area men's amateur baseball teams began the week with state-tournament aspirations. Diamond Cutters, Tri-City Shark and the St. Anthony Hogs all play in the Skyline League and are trying to reach the Class A state tournament.
While the summer American Legion baseball season might not get as much attention as the spring high school season, the Legion season tends to be much more of a grind, with more games compressed into a shorter amount of time.
As the seventh seed in the Sub-State 7 playoffs, the Rosetown Rockets American Legion baseball team faced an uphill climb in its quest to reach the state tournament. Rosetown lasted until the third round before being eliminated.
