District 621 and 282 School Board elections to be held Nov. 5

School Board elections for Mounds View Public Schools and the St. Anthony-New Brighton School District will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Voters will elect three residents to serve four-year terms on the Mounds View School Board. Four candidates are competing for those three open seats.
There are three seats open on the St. Anthony-New Brighton School Board. That race is uncontested, as there are just three candidates.

Bids on Vadnais Sports Center made public

The final three bids to purchase the ailing Vadnais Sports Center were made public on Monday, Sept. 30 in a public notice to bondholders from US Bank, the Center’s trustee.
The sport center was built in 2010 through bonds issued by the Vadnais Heights Economic Development Authority for $26.5 million. After three years of continuous financial woes, Community Facilities Partners -- the nonprofit that owns the facility -- put the sports center on the market with an asking price of  $13 million in July.

City council race uncontested in St. Anthony

Two incumbents are running for reelection in this year’s uncontested St. Anthony Village city council race.
Jan Jensen is close to completing his first term on the city council and says he is eager to serve in a second.

Cities approve property tax caps for 2014

Bulletin-area cities recently approved their preliminary property tax levies for 2014.
The preliminary levies are “not-to-exceed” levies, meaning once the preliminary levies are approved by city councils they cannot be increased, however, they can be lowered.

County taxes: Keeping it flat

It looks like the big news on Ramsey County’s proposed 2014-15 budget is that property owners won’t see any increases in the county’s levy.
“We’re going to have no levy increase,” declared budget chair and District 2 commissioner Victoria Reinhardt.
Reinhardt says that’s because other entities have begun funding county programs they’d dropped for several years.

Three persons of interest sought in Shoreview homicide


Investigators are looking for these two men, who the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department has said are persons of interest in the shooting death of Hagos Tsegay Melake. The photographs were captured from a surveillance camera outside the entrance to the Hunan Garden Restaurant in downtown St. Paul, where Melake was last seen alive.

Authorities are looking for three persons of interest in the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Hagos Tsegay Melake. Ramsey County Sheriff’s deputies found Melake, of South St. Paul, shot dead in a parking lot of a business on the 5700 block of Hamline Avenue North in Shoreview in the early morning hours of Aug. 29.
