As Roseville home comes down, it lifts up others

Nick Swaggert from Better Futures Minnesota points out elements of a home on South McCarrons Boulevard in Roseville that will be salvaged for resale. The organization, a nonprofit that employs and supports men who have been in the prison system, was hired to deconstruct the home, which was purchased by Roseville last year. Once the home comes all the way down, another nonprofit will build a new home on the site that will house an at-risk family or military veteran. Mike Munzenrider photo

As workers left for lunch on a Tuesday earlier this month, the small home at 196 South McCarrons Blvd. in Roseville was stripped and looked set to be remodeled, except it wasn’t being renovated.

Roseville’s a speedskating hot spot — even in the summer

Midway coach Chris Windman said speedskating is for everyone. “It’s not nearly as dog eat dog as the other sports.” he said, pointing out there’s a lot of camaraderie amongst skaters. “I would recommend it for anybody who likes to go fast and work hard and try to beat their best.” photos courtesy of Mary Bos

Just as Rosefest got underway — another signal that summer really is here — a group of young speedskaters took to the ice at the Roseville OVAL to hone their year-round passion.

Roseville discussion of fire station turns to historical society

The half-century old Roseville Fire Station #2, located at 2501 Fairview Ave., could be an attractive property for developers, should the city find a new home for the Roseville Historical Society, which is housed inside it. Photo/Mike Munzenrider

Letter: ‘Anything but a pleasant walk in the park’

To the Editor:

I would like to know why Bennett Lake is covered in thick, scummy debris that looks thick enough to walk on.
