Elvin Baez pitches 2-hitter
After a disappointing tournament performance in Grand Rapids, the North St. Paul 39ers got back on track Monday, June 22 against the Hamline Post 418 Hylanders at St. Paul Academy Field.
Behind a full-game pitching performance by Elvin Baez, the 39ers garnered six runs in the top of the seventh inning to gain a 6-2 triumph in District IV American Legion action.
Drop second game to Excelsior
The North St. Paul Post 39 American Legion baseball team got right into the summer baseball schedule when it opened the season with a 4-2 victory over Fridley Post 303 Gold.
Afterwards, 39ers coach Ron Adams said, "It was a well-played game. Obviously, the pitching on both sides was good. They had a couple of good swings in that one inning, but other than that we shut them down. In the fourth inning those two runs were huge. We got the big hit and then 'Rubes' (pitcher Nate Rubbelke) was able to shut them down in the seventh.
