Fire destroys part of Mendakota Country Club


Hannah Burlingame/Review • A July 13 fire destroyed a storage space next to the clubhouse at the Mendakota Country Club, located at 2075 Mendakota Drive in Mendota Heights. Even though the fire damage to the clubhouse was minimal, it’s closed for repairs due to damage from smoke and water.

A fire broke out in the early morning hours of July 13 at the Mendakota Country Club, destroying a storage space off its clubhouse.

Defibrillator bought by residents saves resident’s life


Solomon Gustavo • Carol Mogren with a picture of her late husband Skip at Cub Foods in New Brighton July 12. Mogren and other New Brighton residents gathered to remember the time in 2006 when Skip was saved from sudden cardiac arrest by a defibrillator at Cub Foods.

New Brighton residents gathered at Cub Foods on Rice Creek Road on July 12, where a plaque commemorating the life, and life-saving event, of Skip Mogren was hung.

Swastika sprayed on New Brighton church’s shed


Solomon Gustavo • A swastika, washed off though still barely visible, was sprayed in fire extinguisher powder on a shed next to the community garden at Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Brighton sometime over the first weekend in July.

A congregant of Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Brighton reported to the New Brighton Department of Public Safety on July 8 that someone had broken into a shed next to the church’s community garden.

Roseville hits brakes on brewpub, zoning changes


Mike Munzenrider • The Roseville City Council blocked, for now, a proposed brewpub in a former service station at the corner of Fairview Avenue and County Road D.

The Roseville City Council said not so fast when it came to zoning changes needed to clear the way for a neighborhood brewpub.
