Oakdale Rainbow will soon become a Cub

Stiff competition from big box retailers like Wal-Mart and Target and a lagging economy has pushed Milwaukee-based Roundy’s out of the Twin Cities grocery market. The company, which owns Rainbow Foods stores, announced on May 7 it would be selling 18 of its 27 Rainbow stores.


Oakdale City Council says no to a twinhome development

The Oakdale City Council was one vote shy of reaching the four-fifths supermajority needed to change the city’s comprehensive plan to allow for the construction of a new twinhome development. Council members Paul Reinke and Lori Pulkrabek cast the dissenting votes.


Fire destroys Oakdale home

East metro residents and leaders recently previewed a project that would add 12 miles of a light-rail train line or designated bus lanes, linking St. Paul with neighboring suburbs, including Maplewood, Oakdale and Lake Elmo.


Oakdale names Ted Bearth 2013 Volunteer of the Year

If “Ted Bearth” isn’t already household name in most Oakdale homes, it should be. Bearth has lived in and served Oakdale in a multitude of ways over the years, and now the city council is making its recognition of his hard work official.

On Nov. 6, The Waters Senior Living hosted a groundbreaking ceremony in the Tartan Crossing redevelopment site off of 11th Street and Hadley Avenue in Oakdale. Located on the northern portion of the former Oakdale Mall site, the new facility will include a 92-unit senior housing building on three acres. When completed, the building will offer 64 units of assisted living and 28 units of memory care housing with underground parking, as well as a variety of wellbeing-focused activities, programs and services.


Weaver Elementary student hit by SUV in Oakdale

A 5-year-old Maplewood boy is currently in fair condition after being hit by a SUV in the parking lot at a party facility in Oakdale the evening of Nov. 15.
Oakdale Police say the boy, identified by family members as Weaver Elementary kindergartener Jakob Schafer, was chasing a bouncy ball in the parking lot of Pump it Up, located at 7045 6th St., when a "dark SUV" hit him around 7:30 p.m.


Oakdale pedestrian killed by SUV on Highway 120

An Oakdale woman was hit and killed by a vehicle while walking on Highway 120 on the border of Oakdale and Maplewood Monday night, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Police and sheriff's deputies from multiple agencies were called to Hwy. 120, also called Century Avenue and Geneva Avenue, near 10th Street North at about 5:45 p.m., according to the incident report.


Lending a ‘hand’ to families in need this holiday season

What started as a small group of people helping struggling families during the holiday season has blossomed into a community outreach effort taken on by more than a hundred volunteers.
The Holiday Helping Hands program, which was started more than 20 years ago by the Oakdale Business and Professional Association (OBPA), now serves more than 80 North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School District 622 families each year.
