Hansen Park reconstruction should be ‘largely done’ this fall

In an effort to prevent future flooding, the Rice Creek Watershed District and New Brighton have undertaken a $4.8 million water storage reconstruction project at Hansen Park, which should be mostly complete this year.

New Brighton police see, laugh at, poorly hidden crime


courtesy of New Brighton Department of Public Safety • The New Brighton Department of Public Safety posted this picture to Facebook on June 16 of a poorly camouflaged, stolen U-Haul truck, barely-tucked away in Long Lake Park in New Brighton. “It’s really hard to hide a U-Haul in the woods,” the post said.

“Making cops laugh at the attempt to camouflage a U-Haul makes them happier,” said a June 16 Facebook post from the New Brighton Department of Public Safety.

Local emergency agencies hold active shooter training


Solomon Gustavo photo • First responders from around the region — including the New Brighton Department of Public Safety, Roseville and St. Anthony fire departments, the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office and Allina paramedics, among others — participated in active shooter training at the former Korean United Methodist Church in New Brighton in late May.

The condemned building of the former Korean United Methodist Church in New Brighton has proven an apt site for Ramsey County and local emergency agencies to train for an active shooter in a big, public place.

During Lotter’s presentation, he said the city found very low concentrations of lead in some of the city’s tap water.

After finding a robin’s nest in his New Brighton yard, Jesús Aguirre decided to put up a surveillance camera in order to observe the bird, the nest and, eventually, the hatching of the eggs.

New Brighton mayor throws first softball pitch, welcomes spring

“Two weeks ago, it was a blizzard,” said New Brighton Mayor Val Johnson the evening of May 1 as she walked toward the backstop at Freedom Park in New Brighton to throw the ceremonial first pitch for a city-run men’s softball league.
