Minneapolis man gets 15 years for stabbing death of Mounds View man

Stephen Edward GoolerA 51-year-old Minneapolis man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the stabbing death of 49-year-old Mounds View resident Perry David Paulson.  
Ramsey County Attorney’s Office spokesman Dennis Gerhardstein said  Stephen Edward Gooler pleaded guilty to second-degree unintentional murder in August.

Linder’s says goodbye


Linder’s Garden Center will likely be closed by mid-November.

After more than 100 years in business, Linder’s Greenhouses will be saying its final farewell to the Twin Cities Area.
“The Linder family has made the decision to close Linder’s Greenhouses Inc.,” the company announced last week. “We will be having an orderly wind down of the business in the coming weeks. We would like to thank all of our customers, our staff and the Twin Cities community for their support in our 100+ years of business.”

District 621 and 282 School Board elections to be held Nov. 5

School Board elections for Mounds View Public Schools and the St. Anthony-New Brighton School District will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Voters will elect three residents to serve four-year terms on the Mounds View School Board. Four candidates are competing for those three open seats.
There are three seats open on the St. Anthony-New Brighton School Board. That race is uncontested, as there are just three candidates.

Demo of two Mounds View buildings approved

Mounds View’s Economic Development Authority unanimously approved a resolution allowing for the demolition of two EDA-owned buildings at its Aug. 12 meeting.
The two parcels – the former Robert’s Sports Bar site at 2400 County Road H2 and the former location of Taiko Sushi at 2394 County Road 10 – were purchased by the EDA earlier this summer using unobligated tax increment financing (TIF) funds.

Victim identified in traffic fatality in Shoreview

James L. Youngbauer, a 56-year-old Shoreview resident, died after he was struck by a semitrailer truck at approximately 12:55 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, in the 5500 block of Lexington Avenue in Shoreview.
Witnesses report seeing Youngbauer walk in front of the semi that was traveling north bound on Lexington Avenue, north of County Road I.

Mounds View continues to collect Xcel franchise fees

The Mounds View City Council approved a continuation of a franchise fee on Xcel Energy electric and natural gas services in the city at its Monday, Aug. 12 meeting.
The city first adopted a franchise free agreement on electric and natural gas services in 1993.
