Mark Sitarz takes over as St. Anthony’s new fire chief

St. Anthony Village has named 15-year department veteran Mark Sitarz as its new fire chief to replace outgoing chief John Malenick, who retired earlier this month.
Sitarz, 44, grew up in the Village and is a graduate of St. John’s University, where he majored in political science and Spanish studies.

District 621 makes 2013 AP Honor Roll

Students at both Irondale and Mounds View high schools have been excelling in AP (Advanced Placement) courses and outperforming their peers in most school districts across the state -- garnering the attention of the College Board and earning the Mounds View Public School District a spot on the AP Honor Roll once again this year.

2014 tax levy, budget approved in Shoreview

The Shoreview City Council approved the city’s final 2014 budget and property tax levy at its Monday, Dec. 16 city council meeting.
Next year’s general fund operating budget of $9.1 million was set along with a levy of just over $10 million. The 2014 levy represents a 3.4 percent increase of $330,000 over 2013.

Minnesota models bring book cover to life

The book cover of Julie Klassen’s latest novel “The Dancing Master” seemed to come alive in front of hundreds of fans earlier this month.
During her Dec. 12 book launch at Barnes & Noble in HarMar Mall, the Shoreview author introduced readers to Jen Halvorson and Brandon Kaschmitter, who appear as “Alec” and “Julia,” the main characters in Klassen’s 7th book.

Shoreview Citizen of the Year awarded

The city of Shoreview honored Julie B. Williams with this year’s Citizen of the Year award at its annual Volunteer Appreciation event last month at the Shoreview Community Center.
The Shoreview City Council in 2007 began giving out the award to honor a resident who gives back to the community through volunteer work and inspires others to do the same.

Local cities approve 2014 tax levies, budgets

Most Bulletin-area cities have approved budgets and set property tax levies for next year.  
The Vadnais Heights City Council adopted its 2014 budget and tax levy on Wednesday, Dec. 4, and the cities of Mounds View, New Brighton, Arden Hills and St. Anthony Village each approved their final budgets and levies last week. The city of Shoreview was expected to approve its budget and tax levy on Dec. 16, which is after the Bulletin’s press time.
