Mounds View’s annual city celebration, the Festival in the Park, is Aug. 16 in City Hall Park, 2401 County Rd. 10, behind Mounds View City Hall.
The Festival, now well into its fourth decade, features fireworks, food, drinks, a car show, parade and a 5K run, giving the city, as Mayor Joe Flaherty said at a June city council meeting, “an opportunity to celebrate itself.”


Mounds View School Board votes in new member

At its June 24 meeting, the Mounds View Public Schools board voted to seat Jonathan Weinhagen in the vacancy created when board member Lisa Sjobeck announced her resignation in May; he will take over the seat effective July 1 through the first Monday of 2016.


Mounds View town hall meeting to be held March 31

The city of Mounds View will be holding its 10th annual town hall meeting at city hall on Monday, March 31 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
The meeting will provide an opportunity for city residents to get up to speed on city ventures and interact with the mayor, council members and city staff.


Local cities approve 2014 tax levies, budgets

Most Bulletin-area cities have approved budgets and set property tax levies for next year.  
The Vadnais Heights City Council adopted its 2014 budget and tax levy on Wednesday, Dec. 4, and the cities of Mounds View, New Brighton, Arden Hills and St. Anthony Village each approved their final budgets and levies last week. The city of Shoreview was expected to approve its budget and tax levy on Dec. 16, which is after the Bulletin’s press time.

19 men arrested during prostitution sting in Mounds View

A total of 19 men were arrested over a two-day period for responding to online advertisements to engage in prostitution at a Mounds View motel.
To catch the perpetrators, police placed phony ads on advertising sex at a motel in Mounds View. The men who responded were arrested after they gave money to an undercover female officer posing as a prostitute.
"We are happy with the results of this investigation," said Mounds View Police Chief Tom Kinney. "I would like to acknowledge the St. Paul Police Department for their expertise in this."


Mounds View School Board rallies in support of levy renewal

ISD 621 School Board Members have been meeting with city council members in cities within the school district’s boundaries recently to garner support from the public for a proposed tax levy renewal referendum that will appear on the ballot on Nov. 5.  
On Monday, Oct. 14 District 621 School Board Member Bob Helgeson and District 621 Superintendent Dan Hoverman met with the Arden Hills City Council to address the matter of levy renewal. In his presentation to the council, Helgeson noted that levy funding is vital to the district’s Equity Promise, which he said is a commitment to make sure all students attending Mounds View Schools are prepared for post-secondary success, regardless of race, class or disability.

Mounds View School Board seeks levy renewal

The Mounds View School Board unanimously approved a resolution to put a levy renewal referendum on the ballot in November.
The district has been receiving $11.5 million annually from a voter approved property tax levy, which began in 2006 and will expire at the end of 2014.
