Little Canada to present rail quiet zone study results

Little Canada might be a little quieter soon—and that’s a good thing, according to city officials and residents plagued by the sound of train whistles at all hours of the day.
On May 14, city council members will discuss the results of a study compiled by SEH Consulting regarding the establishment of a rail quiet zone through Little Canada. A statement from the city says it has received “a significant number” of calls from residents expressing concerns about the whistles, length of the trains, contents of what’s being hauled and the safety of the cars.


Little Canada man crashes van into St. Paul restaurant

A Little Canada man has been charged with fleeing a police officer and five counts of criminal vehicular operation after he allegedly crashed his minivan into a restaurant in Lowertown St. Paul last week.
Just before midnight on Friday, May 2, a state patrol trooper received a radio call reporting an “erratic” motorist on U.S. Highway 61 who was speeding, crossing the center line and nearly crashed into a wall, according to the criminal complaint.

Everyone knows trains make noise as they rumble through cities, blowing their horns at crossings.
But residents in Shoreview and Little Canada say train racket has amplified considerably in recent months. Now they’re making some ruckus of their own, clamoring for help with what they claim is a disruptive amount of train traffic blocking driving routes, filling their neighborhoods with exhaust and, above all, making noise.

Roseville School Board, Little Canada City Council approve 2014 property tax levies

The 2014 property tax levies for School District 623 and the city of Little Canada were approved last week.
The Roseville School Board approved the school district’s 2014 property tax levy at its Tuesday, Dec. 17 meeting.
District business manager Shari Thompson presented information on the levy and current budget year at the truth in taxation hearing prior to the regular board meeting.
