Letter:  Every dollar counts

Five years ago, as newlyweds, my husband and I saved and saved to buy a home. We wanted to put down roots in a great community, Oakdale, and start a family. The Minnesota mortgage interest deduction made our dream a reality. As a young couple, every dollar matters and the state mortgage interest deduction not only made our home more affordable, but it also allowed us to save for our next move.

Letter:  maintaining commitments

The Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014 article in the Oakdale-Lake Elmo Review, “Oakdale candidates talk issues with business community” noted that mayoral candidate Marty Jurgensen “was unable to attend the forum held the morning of Thursday, Sept. 18.”  For my supporters and undecided voters I just want to clarify that the reason I was unable to attend was that I was at work.

Letter:  Minnesota’s leaders should join citizens and support climate action

On Tuesday July 22, 2014, I joined Minnesotans at the St. Paul State Office Building to show my support for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan. Global warming isn’t just a threat to Minnesota’s future. It’s here now. We’ve already seen harsh winters, long droughts, and devastating floods like the ones we had a few weeks ago.

Letter: 'changes will improve our town'

In her letter denouncing the Lake Elmo Council (specifically sparing Anne Smith), Julie Fliflet regurgitates the tired charge of Lake Elmo’s “Fright Brigade” when she characterizes the council as..., you guessed it, favoring developers over residents.
Of course, no policies are evidenced, simply flaccid mischaracterizations.
