Boys hockey: Polars impeach Governors

The North High Polars traveled to Phalen Arena Tuesday, Dec.10, for a hard-skating, good end-to-end contest with the Johnson Governors and emerged on top, 4-1.
“It was a bit sloppy,” said North veteran mentor Jerry Diebel at game’s end. “But Johnson is that kind of club. They make you look ‘sloppy’ out there on the ice. But both teams played hard and gave a good effort.

Johnson High School Hockey is 100 years in the making

The date of the 100-year anniversary celebration of the Johnson High School boys hockey team is getting close at hand.
The celebration will be Saturday, Dec. 21, and things are beginning to really heat up for a get-together of East Siders that might prove hard to handle -- especially when it involves old hockey players, with old memories.
The event is billed as “The Pride of the East Side.”

Almost before the sparse number of spectators had settled into their seats and wrapped their blankets around their shoulders at Bakken Field on the Harding High School campus, the Hill-Murray Pioneers had built a lead they would not surrender in the Section 4, Class AAAA football playoff game with the Johnson Governors on Saturday, Oct. 26.
After the 20-point triumph, Hill-Murray first-year head coach Tony Danna said, “When you score that many points at the beginning of a game, you put the other team in a tough situation.
