Irondale Nordic teams fare well up north

The Irondale High School Nordic ski racing teams are usually in the hunt when it comes to berths in the state meet. The Knights' teams were ranked in the top 16 in the state back in late December.


Growth is key for Irondale/St. Anthony boys hockey

With eight sophomores seeing significant varsity time a year ago, the Irondale/St. Anthony Village boys hockey team took its lumps. The Knights won only three games last season, but head coach Adam Schmidt is expecting that experience work in his team's favor soon.


Knights face tough road for turnaround

With eight games against teams that won at least 20 games each last season, the Irondale High School boys basketball team faces a tough schedule as it tries to rebound from a two-win season a year ago. Despite the daunting slate of games, head coach Jon DeMars expects a marked improvement from a year ago.

As students noisily streamed into third period honors concert choir class at Irondale High School the morning of Sept. 30, one student took a seat at the piano and played some familiar tunes.
Amid the hubbub, he started with Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine" before segueing into Journey's "Don't Stop Believing." Large swaths of the 70 or so students in the class spontaneously chimed in, singing: "Do-on't stop, beliiiiiieving..."
They sang well. There was a palpable buzz in the air. Class started at 9:31.

Familiar foe awaits Irondale in week two

Although the Irondale High School football team is now playing in the Northwest Suburban Conference and facing teams it hasn't played in a long time -- if ever -- the Knights have a game this week against a team they know very well.


New era begins for Irondale football

A new era of football begins at Irondale High School this week. The Knights have a new coach and are playing a schedule that includes six games against teams they haven't seen much of over the years.


Irondale names new principal

Irondale High School in New Brighton will have a new principal effective July 1 as Eric Nelson takes over for outgoing principal Scott Gengler, who announced this past spring that he’d be moving west to Wayzata High School.
