In the aftermath of our November 12 “Call to Action and Mutual Aid,” the East Side Freedom Library will be hosting a “Solidarity Saturday” on the second Saturday afternoon of each month. We will provide the time and space for participants to report back on their activities in the prior month, particularly in grassroots work with our neighbors. We will also provide a workshop for those who are interested.
Join us for a public conversation about the role of academics in informing and fostering positive social change. Labor studies scholars and working-class historians in particular have long worked at the crossroads of academia and activism.
Audre Lorde is often quoted as saying, “For the master’s tools will never dismantle the master’s house. They may allow us to temporarily beat him at his game, but they will never enable us to bring about genuine change.”
The Lower Phalen Creek Project and East Side Freedom Library are excited to host the screening of “History and Volunteerism in East Side St. Paul”, a local documentary. The film highlights Dakota culture, immigrant history in East Side St. Paul, and inspiring local volunteerism through the Mounds Park United Methodist Church. Filmmaker Kristi Wheeler, church organizer Eric Buck, and other community members will be available for questions and discussion.Website: eastsidefreedomlibrary.org
