Rough go for area prep teams
Finishing in the upper half of the field in their respective holiday tournaments proved difficult for a number of Roseville Area High School and Concordia Academy winter sports teams. Of the five area teams whose tournaments concluded prior to the deadline for this edition of the Review, only one placed in the top half.
The Concordia Academy volleyball team closed out its most successful season in almost 30 years with a runner-up finish at the Class AA state tournament. The last time the Beacons finished higher than that was in 1987.
In the state tournament for the second straight year, the Concordia Academy volleyball team did this year what it couldn't last season. The Beacons won their first-round match and put themselves in a prime position to play for the state title.
After beating the same opponent in the previous three section finals, the Roseville Area High School volleyball team saw a different squad on the other side of the net in the Section 4AAA championship match last week.
Concordia Academy senior Seguy Hanson has had a solid season for the Beacons' boys cross country team and that season has been extended one additional week. Hanson gets one more race thanks to his performance last week in the section meet.
The Concordia Academy volleyball team won the Section 4AA title to earn a berth in the state tournament last year. The Beacons won't get the chance to defend its section championship this season after being relocated to Section 5AA.
