The Irondale High School track and field teams participated in the final North Suburban Conference championship meet last week and went out on top. Both the boys and girls squads claimed team championships.
With first place all but a lock, the real drama was in the battle for second place on Friday at Stillwater High School in the Class AAA State True-team Track and Field Meet. That turned out not to be that close either.
Friday was a bad news, good news day for the St. Anthony Village High School baseball team. The bad news was that the Huskies suffered their first loss of the season, but the good news is that the loss didn’t damage their conference-title hopes. They also didn’t have to wait very long to put the loss in the rearview mirror.
The Knights’ record has hovered around the .500 mark most of the season, but they have a couple of impressive victories to their credit. One of them came last Friday.
Having dropped the first meeting with Benilde-St. Margaret’s, Irondale ventured to the St. Louis Park school in search of an upset of the third-ranked Red Knights. They climbed back on the bus to go home with that goal accomplished.
