Huskies return seasoned roster

Despite the layer of snow that still covered Palm Field last week, there is plenty of optimism surrounding the St. Anthony Village High School baseball team this spring. The Huskies return a slew of talent from last year’s team that advanced to the section final.

A pair of former Irondale standouts was in upstate New York last weekend for the Division III women’s Frozen Four. Kelsey Barnier closed out her collegiate career at the event while Gillian McDonald reached the midway point of her college hockey life.

Third straight title eludes Lorence, Gophers

Meghan Lorence spent the final weekend of the college hockey season in New England chasing a national championship. Brausen and her University of Minnesota teammates fell short of a third consecutive Division I women’s hockey title but she’ll have one more chance at another title next year.

Mounds View grad continues to shine at Bethel

The Bethel University women’s basketball team has had somewhat of a revival over the last two seasons and former Mounds View High School standout Rachel Parupsky has been integral part of that turnaround. A sophomore for the Royals, Parupsky has had back-to-back outstanding seasons.

Bulletin-area natives provide 1-2 punch at Wheaton

Katie McDaniels and Ellie Zeller are the only two Minnesotans on the women’s basketball roster at Wheaton College in Illinois but they were quite the duo for the Thunder this season. They were the top two scorers on the team and raked in a number of post-season awards for their efforts.

The NCAA is holding its women’s hockey Frozen Fours this weekend and Irondale High School will be represented at both of them. Meghan Lorence is headed to her third Division I Frozen Four while Kelsey Barnier is set to appear in her first Division III Frozen Four.

St. Anthony grad still going the distance in Duluth

Former St. Anthony Village High School distance runner Chris Lawson is a sophomore at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. Although he is in only his second season competing for the Saints, he has amassed quite an impressive list of accolades.
Lawson added to that list at the recent Upper Midwest Athletic Conference indoor track and field championships. Lawson won the 5,000 meters at the conference meet and earned all-UMAC honors in the process.

Former Irondale standout headed to NCAA tournament

As a member of the Irondale High School girls hockey team, Kelsey Barnier played in a pair of state tournaments, the Holy Grail of prep hockey in Minnesota. Now a senior at the University of St. Thomas, Barnier has reached a similar height at the collegiate hockey level.
Barnier and her St. Thomas teammates have qualified for the Division III NCAA women’s hockey tournament. The Tommies clinched their spot in the tournament by winning the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoffs on Saturday.
