St. Paul Hiking Club

Sunday hikes start at 2:30 p.m., go approximately 5 miles and last one and a half hours to two hours. Tuesday hikes start at 7 p.m., from April through October, go approximately 3 miles and last approximately an hour. Come early as hikes start on time.

• Tuesday, Oct. 1, - Meet at the parking lot of Katherine Abbott Park in Mahtomedi, 890 Lincolntown Ave. The group will leave the park and walk to neighboring paths and residential areas. 

• Sunday, Oct. 6 — Meet at the Coldwater Stop parking lot of the Brown’s Creek Trail. This will be an almost six mile hike with some steps. The hike will go to Stillwater via McKusick Road and back on the Brown’s Creek Trail. To get to the starting point, take Highway 36 East to Manning Avenue, then turn north on Manning. Go to McKusick Road and turn east. Go approximately a half mile, then turn right on Neal Avenue and proceed to parking lot on the right. 

• Tuesday, Oct. 8 — Meet in the parking lot of McCarron’s Pub and Grill, 1986 Rice St., St. Paul. This will be a walk around Lake McCarrons. 

• Sunday, Oct. 13 — Meet in the Pine Bend Nature Sanctuary in Inver Grove Heights. The group will hike paved trail to the mostly completed part of the Mississippi River Trail. Take Highway 52 South to 117th Street, turn east and take Courthouse Boulevard North past the Pilot Truck Stop and just past 111th Street to a driveway, which will be on your right. It’s posted private but it’s not. Turn in and follow the driveway across the trail to another gravel clearing to park. 

• Tuesday, Oct. 15 — Meet in the north end of Kowalski’s parking lot, 4391 Lake Ave. S., White Bear Lake. This will be a lakeside hike. 

• Sunday, Oct. 20 — Meet at 5800 Rice Creek Parkway., in Shoreview, aka Rice Creek Fields. The hike will be the Rice Creek North Trail. FYI the parking lot is also called Rice Creek Fields.

• Tuesday, Oct. 22 — Meet in the parking lot of Maplewood Middle School on the east side of school, 2410 Holloway Ave. The group will hike in Hillside Park plus trails and streets nearby. 

• Sunday, Oct. 27 — Meet at Sunfish Lake Park, 9700 Stillwater Blvd. N. off Highway 14 in Lake Elmo. This hike will be lots of hills on unpaved, rustic trail. 

• Tuesday, Oct. 29 — Meet at the house, 5565 Golfview Ave. N., in Oakdale. The hike will be in the North St. Paul/Silver Lake area.
