NEWSBRIEF: East Side Learning Center seeking volunteers

The East Side Learning Center provides free one-on-one reading tutoring for 280 children a day who read below grade level and are unable to get help elsewhere. These children receive personalized lesson plans with a caring adult Monday through Thursday for 30 to 45 minutes. To help these children, the East Side Learning Center is seeking adult volunteers to help work with students. The Learning Center will provide training, on-site support from staff, lesson plans and materials. No experience required — just the desire to work with children. Volunteers can work anytime between Monday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a range of commitment options — volunteer for an hour once a week for a semester or build strong mentoring relationships and make a difference in the lives of several children by volunteering multiple times per week. For more information or to sign up, contact Shoua Khang, volunteer coordinator, at 651-808-8107 or send an email to shoua.khang@eslcmn.org. Volunteers can also sign up at eastsidelearningcenter.org. The East Side Learning Center is located at 740 York Ave.
