Lake Elmo

 

Campfire program

The Lake Elmo Park Reserve is hosting a family campfire program lasting 45 minutes. The free program will include live creatures, facts, and/or exhibits for hands-on learning. The next program will be on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 7:15 to 8 p.m. at 1515 Keats Ave. N.

 

Starwatch Party

The “great celestial show in the skies” featuring WCCO Radioís Mike Lynch, giant telescopes, constellation spotting, and stories will be on Friday, Aug. 30. The free event is from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Lake Elmo Park Reserve, located at 1515 Keats Ave. N. Participants should meet at the swim pond.

 

Fitness hike

Anyone over the age of 13 can join a guided hiking group on a mixed-surface trail on Friday, Aug. 23 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Lake Elmo Park Reserve’s Nordic Center. No reservation is required, but minors must be accompanied by an adult. Event coordinators ask participants to arrive 10 minutes early, bring water and wear hiking boots or shoes. The address is 1515 Keats Ave. N.

Maplewood

 

Public safety outreach

Goldenstar apartments, located at 321 Larpenteur Ave., will host a “behind the badge” event on Aug. 27, with officers and firefighters. The community will have the chance to meet their public safety team and learn safety tips from 5 to 7 p.m.

 

Prairie walk

On Tuesday Aug. 27 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., visitors can enjoy a free prairie walk at the Gladstone Preserve. Participants can catch and release crickets and grasshoppers, learn how the prairie was restored, go on a self-guided scavenger hunt, and get a “prairie prize.” People must register by Aug. 25 at the Maplewood Parks and Recreation website or by calling 651-249-2170. The Gladstone Preserve is located at the southwest corner of Frost Avenue and English Street. 

 

End of summer celebration 

The community is invited to gather with neighbors at Edgerton Park on Wednesday, Aug. 21 to cap off summer. The park, located at 2001 Edgerton St., will host festivities from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

 

 

North St. Paul

 

Public hearing on townhouses

The City Hall is conducting a public hearing for the development of 18 townhouse units at 2329 17th Ave. E. on Thursday, Sept. 12. The city says the hearing, to accept public input on an application for the development, will take place at approximately 6:15 p.m. Written comments for inclusion in the planning commission’s packet can be submitted to the city no later than Sept. 5. Written comments can be submitted until 6 p.m. on Sept. 12, the day of the public hearing, and will be provided to the planning commission at the meeting. Polar Park feedback meeting

The city will host a meeting at Polar Park to receive community feedback on Wednesday, Aug. 21 from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Feedback will be used to develop a guide for future park planning. The meeting will be moved to City Hall if there is inclement weather. Polar Park is located near the intersection of Shawnee Drive and Chippewa Avenue North.

 

 

Northwood Park meeting

The public is invited to attend and give input about Northwood Park on Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Northwood Park is located at 1995 First St. 

 

History Cruze Car Show

Every week in the summer, Seventh Avenue in downtown North St. Paul turns into “Fabulous Friday” featuring a classic car show, food and music. The event is from 6 to 10 p.m. Fridays in the summer. The History Cruzers are looking for “Yellow Shirt” volunteers, whether it be one day or every Friday. Call Paul Houliston at 651-210-9645 to volunteer. 

 

Oakdale

 

Farmers market

Pick up fresh items from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays at the weekly farmers market. The event will take place in the parking lot of Walton Park/Oakdale City Hall at 1584 Hadley Ave. N. every Wednesday until Oct. 2.

 

Summer concert

Elvis tribute Steve Marcio will perform at Walton Park on Wednesday, Aug. 21 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Walton Park is located at 1584 Hadley Ave. N. The events are free.
