NEWSBRIEF: Keep taps flowing

A notice from the city of New Brighton during a week of extreme cold offered tips to avoid water line freeze.

Residents should check to ensure that the cold water coming from their taps doesnít dip below 39 degrees. If it does, the city recommends running a continuous, but tiny, stream of water until the temperature rises.

There is no water bill discount for this practice, the city cautioned, though repairs from a frozen line could outpace any additional utility bill charge.

Other tips include leaving cupboard doors open to expose pipes to home heat, wrapping pipes with insulation, keeping the home temperature above 55 degrees and shutting off and draining pipes leading to outside faucets.
