A 58-year-old man reported Oct. 20 the theft of two bikes and bicycle gear from the 1600 block of Oak Avenue, a $6,022 loss.

Falcon Heights

Hands-on

Employees at a business in the 1300 block of Larpenteur Avenue determined that a man on Oct. 17 stole 10 pairs of gloves by slipping into a bathroom to conceal them, then leaving without paying.

Lauderdale

Arrest

A 42-year-old woman stopped Oct. 14 at Larpenteur and 33rd avenues was arrested, cited and released for driving with a suspended license, no proof of nor actual insurance, displaying plates from another vehicle and having expired tabs; one assumed the cops told her to get her act together.

Late on the rent

Employees at a business in the 2500 block of Broadway Drive told police Oct. 11 that a 52-year-old man had rented equipment, but had neither paid for the rental nor returned the gear. Initial attempts to contact the man failed; police contacted his girlfriend and the equipment was returned. The business told police there was an agreement for payment.

Little Canada

Burglary

As reported just after 6 a.m. on Oct. 18, a man pried open the doors to a business in the 3000 block of Rice Street and stole building keys, vehicle keys and some $7,000.

A 71-year-old woman who lives in the 500 block of Keller Parkway told police Oct. 18 that someone smashed her service door window to get into her place. The prowler took an estimated $5,800 worth of items, including medication, change, $2 bills, jewelry, a leather handbag and binoculars.

A 26-year-old woman told police Oct. 20 someone got into her home in the 2400 block of Rice Street through a broken window but apparently didn’t take anything.

Burglary and kidnapping

Overnight into Oct. 17 three men entered a 32-year-old man’s Labore Road home and took him out at gunpoint; the men bound and beat him and drove him around. They all returned to the home where the man’s children were sleeping. The three men pointed a gun at a 34-year-old woman who lives at the home and told her to tell them the combination to the man’s safe. She didn’t know it, so the three criminals took the safe, along with cash, a diamond watch, jewelry, $2 bills and Michael Jordan memorabilia, a loss of roughly $10,000.

Mounds View

Car tailing car

An officer took a report the evening of Oct. 17 of a car following another car flashing its lights in the area of Long Lake and Sherwood roads. The person in the car being tailed called the cops to file the report.

Party in the car

Someone called the police on a car that couldn’t keep a single lane around 3 a.m. on Oct. 14 and an officer finally tracked it down near Interstate 35W and County Road I. The officer arrested the driver, a 30-year-old Mounds View woman, for a number of offenses, including second-degree DWI, no proof of insurance and failure to keep a lane. There were also three teens in the car — a 17-year-old girl, 14-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy, who were all cited for minor consumption of alcohol.

New Brighton

Cut lock

A teenage boy told police Oct. 18 someone cut the lock on his locker at LA Fitness in the 1100 block of Silver Lake Road that same afternoon and stole his $1,000 Samsung phone.

Inside job?

A man entered a business housed in a warehouse in the 600 block of Lakeview Point Drive on Oct. 20 wearing a black mask and gloves, moving through the space mostly evading security cameras. He moved a camera that faced a secured door but couldn’t get in; still, he made off with $10,230. The manager who reported the burglary Oct. 22 said he thinks the thief may have been an employee with a key fob for the building.

Vandalism

A 40-year-old woman who lives in the 1000 block of Pike Lake Drive told police sometime overnight into Oct. 17 her entire mailbox was pulled from the ground and thrown into the street.

No news is good news.

St. Anthony

Car recovered

A check on a car Oct. 14 in the 2200 block of St. Anthony Boulevard said it was stolen out of Minneapolis so police pulled it over. The 33-year-old man driving the vehicle was questioned and then arrested and booked at the Hennepin County Jail for felony possession of stolen property and driving with a revoked license.

Ditch the carts

An employee at the Cub Foods in the 3900 block of Silver Lake Road told police Oct. 9 that he’d noticed two suspicious men with carts overflowing with merchandise. Upon seeing them enter an area they shouldn’t have been — one assumes it was in order to take off with the goods — the employee confronted the men. One of them pushed his cart out the door and the employee followed, confronting him again and prompting him to run off without the cart. The employee returned inside and found the other man had run off, ditching his cart too.

Drive-off theft

A 66-year-old man told police Oct. 8 that someone made off with his trailer and the lawnmower that was on it from an apartment building parking lot in the 3200 block of Diamond Terrace.

Purse snatchers

A 66-year-old woman who was shopping at the Cub Foods in the 3900 block of Silver Lake Road Oct. 14 told police her purse was snatched out of her shopping cart and the person who did it ran off. Police later found the thief, a 17-year-old boy, locked in the bathroom at the nearby Chipotle. The woman’s purse was found in a trashcan and returned to her; the boy’s mother was called to pick him up and he was told he should expect to be charged with misdemeanor theft.

A 49-year-old woman who was walking through the Cub parking lot that same day told police she was approached by an unknown man who wanted to ask a question, who then grabbed her purse and two shopping bags, making the woman fall in the process. The man hopped in a car and drove off, tossing the shopping bags as he went. The woman’s purse was later found along the road in Columbia Heights, though her wallet and credit cards were missing, an estimated $20 loss. She gave a description of the suspect to police and the case was referred for investigation.

Wheels of steal

A 49-year-old man told police Oct. 10 he was out two sets of wheels and the tires to match after having placed the two sets in his yard with a “For Sale” sign, keeping some of the tires in his garage. The car parts that were outside, as well as those that were in his garage, in the 3700 block of 33rd Avenue, were stolen — the man thinks the thief broke a window to get into the garage and he also has a hunch as to who did the deed, a man who’d looked at the tires and rims the day prior to the theft. In all, it’s a $2,900 loss.
