Does the Ramsey County libraries subscribe to any literary magazines?

Q. Does the Ramsey County libraries subscribe to any literary magazines? I’m looking for physical copies of magazines at the library, as opposed to the online resources?

A. Because we are a public library system, the periodicals we carry are selected with an eye toward the interests of the general public, rather than specialized concerns. We do carry additional titles — including specialized subject matter — through our online digital archive resources, but you may want to try area academic libraries for a greater selection of literary magazines in paper format.

Having said that, it’s worth pointing out that the most prestigious literary magazine in the United States in the minds of many is the New Yorker, which consistently publishes more prize-winning stories and poetry than any other American publication. We carry two years’ worth of paper issues of the New Yorker at our Shoreview, Maplewood and Roseville branches. We also carry the Atlantic Monthly, Harper’s Magazine and The New York Review of Books — all of which qualify to some degree as voices of the literary establishment.
