Concluding nearly 40 years in education, St. Anthony-New Brighton Schools Superintendent Robert Laney retired June 30.

On July 1, Dr. Renee Corneille became the new superintendent.

Corneille started working for the school district in 2010 when she was hired as Principal of St. Anthony Middle School. From January to July this year, she was interim principal of St. Anthony Village High School, stepping in after the former principal resigned and took leave.

At the Aug. 14 St. Anthony City Council meeting, Cornielle introduced herself and presented her goals for the school district.

Corneille provided the following purpose statement; “I’m a determined educator who is committed to creating ethical, educated, and engaged citizens committed to justice.”

She said she and other district staffers will work to make sure every child is given the same opportunities they would want for their own children. In her presentation, Corneille stated her “moral imperative” is that “there is no such thing as other people’s children.”
