FAITH: Opportunities offered at Benedictine Center

The Benedictine Center in Maplewood is offering these upcoming opportunities in August:

• Retreat: Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina — Friday, August 10, through Wednesday, August 15. The fee for this program is $375, which includes lodging and meals, or $150 through Sunday only. Participants will experience silence and praying the Scripture. The retreat will blend centering prayer, lectio divina and prayer with the Monastic community. This event is led by Virginia Matter, a Benedictine Sister and spiritual director; and Carol Quest, a long-time practitioner of centering prayer. Both are certified centering prayer teachers.

• Taize Prayer: A Day of Reflection — Friday, August 17, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The cost for this event is $40, which includes lunch and supper. Participants will have an opportunity to relax into the peaceful rhythm of Taize Prayer. Carol Rennie, a Benedictine Sister, spiritual director and former prioress of St. Paul’s Monastery, will lead participants in reflections on “Silence and the Mystery of Wholeness” written by Robert Sardello.
